Adopt-A-School

CityReach partners with over 60 schools in the Greater Vancouver Area through food support, seasonal events, and other fundamental resources to see students, schools, and communities thrive.

Program Overview

We believe that children deserve our greatest investment.

Local schools are deeply connected to families and their specific needs, and so, we love being able to partner together to make an impact in our community and its future.

We are pleased to support 65 schools in the Greater Vancouver Area. Our current Adopt-A-School initiatives serve schools in Vancouver, Tri-Cities, Surrey, and Delta with the following programs and initiatives:

PRIORITY REFERRALS
We offer priority referrals to our Food for Families program and to events such as the Back to School Blast and our Boxes of Love Christmas hampers. This allows us to make sure we meet the needs of the local families who need it most, while simplifying the process for the families involved.

FOOD FOR FAMILIES DISTRIBUTION
In addition to offering schools access to refer families directly to our ‘Food For Families’ program (dependent on capacity), we also offer schools the ability to have fresh food hampers delivered by our driver volunteers to their school, where they can designate them to families who need them most. Volunteer opportunities are currently available to serve at our Vancouver, Tri-Cities, Surrey and Delta locations.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Thanks to our volunteer teams and partners, we provide special kits for schools by request. Our current projects include Hygiene Kits for preteens, Sensory Kits for classrooms, extra seasonal clothing and more. We love to work with each school’s needs and offer creative solutions that make the most impact.

STUDENT COMMUNITY AWARDS
At the end of each school year, we offer the CityReach Community Awards to various graduating elementary students at our adopted schools. We love to see students serving and investing in their communities, and are happy to be able to recognize and celebrate their achievements.

ON-SITE SUPPORT
When schools need assistance with extra-curricular activities or special events, we are thrilled to be able to come along and offer volunteer support. These are scheduled by request, and are a great way for volunteers to help ‘serve our schools’!

‘SERVE OUR SCHOOLS’ NETWORK
CityReach is proud to be a founding member of the ‘Serve Our Schools’ network, in partnership with City Gate Vancouver, City Dream Centre, Promise Vancouver, Vancouver Urban Ministries and Union Gospel Mission. Our goal is to resource and equip churches and other organizations to connect with their local school and offer support where needed. When communities invest in local schools and families - the possibilities are endless and we see students thrive!

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about CityReach's programs, including eligibility, accessing services, and getting involved as a volunteer or donor.

What kind of donations are helpful for these programs?

We are always seeking more donors and partners to support our work and our local schools and students! This can be as an individual, team, family or business. We are currently seeking financial gifts to support our various initiatives and projects, to help meet our goal for this term. These financial gifts make a huge impact, and with low operating costs, are always stewarded well. As well, we are always looking for donations of NEW items such as: non-perishable individual snack items, deodorant, wipes, mini shampoo, and other personal care items.

How can I volunteer with Adopt-A-School?

Our volunteer opportunities vary by season, school requests, and location. Opportunities may include delivering food hampers to schools in your area, assisting with special events and projects at a school, and packing resources such as our Hygiene Kits and Sensory Bins. Most opportunities occur during weekdays. For more information, contact Luisa Orendain at luisao@cityreach.org

How can I add my school to your list for support?

We're so glad you asked! We are accepting new school partners for various types of support in each of our locations (Vancouver SD39, Tr-Cities SD43, Surrey SD46 and Delta SD37). Support available per school may be limited based on our capacity. Please check our list of current schools supported, and if your school is not yet listed, please contact Luisa at luisao@cityreach.org.
